Good place to work but tough sales environment.

Operations Manager (Former Employee)
Albany, NY (US)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe company was great to work for and had lots of opportunities in branches. The benefits package was great especially the ability to buy an extra week of vacation. Every year they had colleague appreciation week which was always fun and relaxed.

ConsThe ales environment causes some to do unethical behaviors because it was all number driven. Outside of branches, if you don't live in RI or Boston, the career opportunities are limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that not everyone needs a 3rd checking account.

Management Needs to "Walk the Talk"

Communications Manager (Former Employee)
Cranston, RI (US)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than a year

ProsGood benefits, flex schedules in many areas. Employees take pride in community outreach efforts. Good collaboration and cross-department collaboration in many areas.

ConsAs elsewhere, continual change and restructuring has created a climate of unease. Most frustrating thing is that the values and mission, which are clearly communicated, seem to be mostly "lip service" in some many areas. Transparency is a term used constantly, but the atmosphere is not truly open for employees to honestly express their true opinions (without recourse) in the multitude of surveys and meetings where feedback is sought. Employees are often set up for failure by being moved (without discussion) into roles to fit business purposes, not taking into account the skills, talents and interest.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to work with leadership more on truly supporting employees with development of skills and matching skills to the right job. "Window dressing" attempts at recognition do not balance out feelings of not being valued. If job market gets stronger, many frustrated employees will seek opportunities elsewhere in order to gain more satisfaction at doing what they do best for an organization that supports them in their career.

What a nightmare

Branch Manager, Officer (Former Employee)
East Stroudsburg, PA (US)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than 7 years

Pros-Great co-workers
-ok time off
-ok incentive

Cons-Management has such a disconnect with branches. They think that their approach to sales is going to work, what jerks. They need to get their act together, because their sales routines don't work for a happy customer experience. What the hell happened to the "CREDO"

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe management should work in branches for a few weeks and really see how it is, so maybe they could have a better understanding on how to manage better. I was a branch manager in northeast PA, and I had pride in my job until the change happened. It turned me off 100%

Company Lacks Integrity

Banker I (Former Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA (US)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat people to work with.

ConsCitizen's Bank only cares about selling anything and everything to customers. There is little to no care about the employees, and the amount of pressure, and unrealistic goals they place on the employees shows the companies lack of integrity. The turn-over rate is absurd, and yet nothing is done to make the employees feel confident about working there.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-do your hold method of operation. It is not working.

Crazy sales and performance pressure!

Banker II (Former Employee)
Doylestown, PA (US)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than 7 years

Prossolid hourly pay good benefits

Consthe amount of pressure to produce new checking accounts as a platform person is beyond real! I witnessed many coworkers suffer stress related illnesses just to have them be laid off when they returned. I have witnessed the few that do well lie and cheat customers to get them to open new accounts they had no need for.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to keep your customer base work more on customer service and less on abusing customers to get new checking accounts. Back off on your employee pressures & performance expectations.

Going downhill

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Citizens Financial Group

ProsGood benefits, ample paid time off

ConsPoor management on all levels

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers of accounts and business lines do not necessarily make them effective managers of employees. Consider carefully those people you delegate to manage a team of people, as it is quite different than merely managing numbers.

teller /banker

Teller (Current Employee)
Arlington, MA (US)

I have been working at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than 10 years

Prosthe customers are the best. worked there 10 years.some good employee great insurance, good to community projects.

ConsManagment is lacking maybe ifsome .of these higher up would ask some of these employee why they left. Instead of sitting in and office. Pick some employess and ask why your leaving. Been there 10 years got fired had many customer call and complain who listens to them no one.Ive been home 2 days and recieved 6 calls from customers

Advice to Senior Managementlook into the little people that come to work everyday and who are there to take care of customers and make the company look good.Find out why there such a big turn over listen to employee and customers.Because thats what were here for our customers.

Perfect for the numbers-driven salesperson

Banker (Former Employee)

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time for more than a year

ProsExcellent training programs, wonderful local staff, bonus oppotunities

ConsNot customer-driven, promotions are based on sales and not leadership abilities, very little/no communication from upper management, huge differences between traditional and in-store

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your employees more generously, focus on customers and not checking accounts, promote leaders instead of salespeople, foster communication and continuity between traditional and in-store branches
