Cashier (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA (US)

I worked at Costco Wholesale full-time for more than 3 years

Prosflexible hours, and always able to get over time if you need it. It is not mandatory but it's nice to know if you need extra cash you can work more.

ConsThis place is more for college and high school students to start out with, if you have a college degree you may want to look elsewhere because they won't hire you for management right from the outside.

good to my family

Front End Cashier (Current Employee)
East Wenatchee, WA (US)

I have been working at Costco Wholesale full-time for more than 10 years

Prosgood pay. great place for college students to work. very supportive of your family. good medical, dental, and retirement benefits. if you are a hard worker it is easy to get higher paying positions.

Consas with any company there are people or rules that may get on your nerves, such as shifts and days off are by seniority so it can take 15 years to get early shifts or weekend days off but at least you know if you stay with the company it gets better

Front End Assistant- Seasonal Employee

Cashier Assistant (Front-End Assistant) (Former Employee)

I worked at Costco Wholesale for less than a year

ProsMost of the employees were really nice. Compensation was good and time and a half on Sundays was nice. They were great about the timing of breaks.

ConsWhen I interviewed and told I got the job, I was told I would be a part time employee but when I showed up for orientation, I was told I was seasonal.... Not many hours and when I got hours they were well under 20 hours a week. They say you are an employee BUT at Thanksgiving they gave turkeys to everyone except the seasonal employees and they donated the remaining ones- that was very telling as to how they felt about us. There are a lot of chiefs barking orders yet they don't communicate with each other so you will get an order from one and then another will tell you to do something totally different. I never knew who I reported to- very confusing. They tell you to run through the store to get things- seems unsafe to the members and myself but I did what I was instructed to do. Some of the employees were very rude to other employees and members but they had been there for many years and no one did anything. I felt like Costco had a union mentality meaning once you're in, you're in no matter what- and certain employees take full advantage of that- it's rather sad.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to all of your employees- you have some seasoned cashiers that do not act professional with members and give a black eye to your store.

Good for a while

Food Court Assistance (Former Employee)
Livonia, MI (US)

I worked at Costco Wholesale as an intern for less than a year

ProsGood company to work for. Good benefits and they start you off at $11. Everyone's friendly, sometimes too much.. A few creeper guys. Most people that work here are "lifers".. They never go anywhere else or try for anything better.

ConsBeing a seasonal employee sucks. I got the worst jobs and the worst hours.
