ProsOverall a good company to work for. Good benefits, executive management seems to care about employees. Processes are typically mature, managment mostly strives to do the right thing.

ConsSomewhat cliquish... have to really know someone with hiring authority to be on fast track.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook for quality people instead of hiring friends.

ProsI've worked for multiple managers and supervisors and they all follow the Cox Culture of valuing the employee and family. Any time I've had personal situations going on, all managers I've worked for have made it very easy to get thru those situations by allowing use of personal time and being supportive. Cox Communications also provides opportunities for higher education by providing reimbursement benefits.

ConsI really don't have any negative comments, I do believe that sometimes circumstances (positions) and individuals (skill-set) may not be a good match for the goals at hand but I see this more as human error than something I would hold against Cox the company.

ProsCompany offers great benefits, extensive initial training and a lot of incentives for your hard work.

ConsPolicies, numbers, goals, etc. can change daily. Once you feel comfortable, they change it on you...but you'll see that with any company.

ProsMet a few great people who are still friends. My income while there was faire for the most part.

ConsIt was an eleven year roller-coaster ride of management overhauls and typical sales commission shenanigans ... I was quite happy to leave.

ProsGood company to work for. Good corporate culture, but it is changing. Overall, Cox is good to its employees. Generous Holiday & PTO. Offers professional development training. Compensation was good, but recent annual increases were minimal (~3%).

ConsThe pay-TV industry has transitioned from a growth industry to a mature industry where competitors are competing for share. Cox went through a realignment in 2011 and 2012 to be more competitive. These changes, the realignment process, and struggles to stem net subscriber losses has damaged employee morale and the corporate culture.

ProsThis organization has one of the best "people" cultures I have ever had the pleasure to be part of. Cox "Employee Bill of Rights" is pro-employee--the best part is that it is very true. The employees work together and projects come together as needed in this very fast paced organization.

ConsThe recent strategy change to standardize across all regions is creating less flexibility for region-specific decision-making and is extending the amount of time that internal projects can be accomplished. The organization is slow to move on key decisions and is constantly playing "catch-up" with its competitors.

ProsFree services from Cox
Competitive pay against anyone else in the Telecom business, commission allows the top earners to make 50-70% over target pay.
Pension + 401k
Great incentives

ConsReducing commissions
consistently hiring outside of the company for leadership
low ability to move up beyond middle management
Outsourcing support and sales calls has led to dissatisfied employees and customers.
