I worked at DIRECTV full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay isn't bad for the job qualifications. Not a bad 401K. Good perks that include free DirecTV programming and NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB, NBA, sports packages and all premium channels. Pretty much any channel they offer, you receive for free as an employee. Employees also get expediated installation once they qualify for free programming.

    Cons

Not easy to climb the ladder, most available moves are lateral. Sometimes schedules might be inconvenient and trading shifts can possibly be an issue depending on your manager/team leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the 90 day no miss policy. Make sure management has true leadership skills. Although this is a CSR position, there is a lot of upselling products, channels, packages, ect, commissions would be an added welcome.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A number of smart people that know a lot about the business. With a little searching, you can always find someone with extensive knowledge and expertise in any area. Good pay. Free DIRECTV.

    Cons

Seems like every meeting has more than 20 people in it - hard to get things done. Power politics rule. High-level execs whipsaw workers back and forth as they argue about strategy and tactics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Delegate responsibility and do your own job instead of everyone else's.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Freedom during the work day, nobody breathing down your neck, decent co worker environment overall.

    Cons

In this "small town" setting, no room to advance unless you relocate, stingy site manager who grasps every penny with all of his power resulting in terrible raises and unnecessary pressure. Complete lack of trust on all levels and you get the sense that you are always guilty until proven innocent. Working in all elements is a big downer in this field, as you will work in all settings, hot cold, rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, torrential downpour, dirty environments, clean environments, crawl in attics, crawlspaces, in some cases even been through sewage, and an overall labor intensive job while working in all said scenarios.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on making the pay much higher, eliminate favoritism, push every individual to unlock their potential in hopes to move up, and even encourage and mentor promoting the individuals. This would help attract real talent, and push the motivation of the current talent you wish to keep. As for myself, I'm constantly on the lookout for a new job that will pay enough to keep my family afloat. Its shameful and demoralizing to have this level of expertise and make so little for it. We are the face of DIRECTV, start acting like it. Think about the guys who are in the trenches and think about how they're wondering how to pay bills, put food into their kids mouths, and make all ends meet without just living paycheck to paycheck.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You receive extensive training. Everyone seems to care about each other. Team environment was helpful in sharing best practices. They try to make it a fun environment. Adjustable desks so you can stand or sit.

    Cons

Pay is average. You share desks so you don't get your own desk. Only a couple of Mon-Fri shifts available.

    Pros

    Cool people, some cool supervisors.
Decent pay oh and the perks are really nice.

    Cons

It's a sales environment so... Just know that they will expect you to be a rock star at selling EVERYTHING they have, so don't get more comfortable selling one thing over the other because you'll get in trouble.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing your thing.

I worked at DIRECTV full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Somewhat flexible schedule
Sales teams are usually pretty upbeat

    Cons

Management seems to be more worried about having people that will get them their bonus and not so much correct marketing for the demographic of the area. Being on your feet all day with nothing more than a table with pamphlets is not a great way to sell products. You would only get paid if the customer actually went through with installation. This is understandable, however, management does not notify employees of exactly what orders were completed. So the employee never knows how much their check will be. The management also takes out their bonus cut before you get your commission. So, your payout may be floated over a 2-3 week period. Ex. you sign up 10 customer one week @ $100 dollar commission per completed order. 7 complete the installation. You don;t get your 700 buck the next check. You may get $300-$400 and a week late get the rest. Very difficult when you are trying to plan to pay bills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In an area where it is easier and faster to get cable, management and marketing should be more creative with strategies to help build a customer base.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

It is near Hollywood. It inspires people to be an actor, and pretend to listen to your work colleagues.

    Cons

Very inefficient. Too many people who do not actually know much, and do not contribute technically. A culture in which people do not do basic research on Google before discussing a technical issue. Not everyone can contribute at a super star technical level- but a Linux administrator should understand Linux administration before commenting on a new feature of Linux- and so on....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benchmark against much better IT organization, and improve.
