Work at Delphi

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Bangalore

I worked at Delphi

ProsThis was my first job after i graduated from college. Naturally i was very excited and eager to prove myself. The initial training is excellent. The work depends on what project you will be put into. Some projects are really interesting and challenging. The project I was working was very interesting. If you do a good job there are lot of opportunities for growth. I had to quit because i decided to pursue a graduate degree.

Cons* Poor management
* This is a very niche industry
* Not enough challenging work
* Sometimes promotions are not given to right people

Advice to Senior Management* Very important to recognise true talent
* The processes that are being following is very good
* Management needs to be more strealined

You need to struggle very hard to grow here.

Software Engineer (Former Employee)

I worked at Delphi

ProsThere is a lot of exposure to technology. If you are a self learner this is a good place to work.

ConsNot an Open-culture as the management claims.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect the good people in the company, else they will leave. Appreciation for an employee's efforts must be equal in all teams. The people engagement practices claimed to be implemented must be implemented more effectively.

Delphi company review from Employee's standpoint

Tech Lead (Current Employee)

I have been working at Delphi

ProsThe best reasons to work for Delphi are their diversity and depth in technology, which ranges from autmotive design, electronics and safety, telematics, radios and lately also in new ventures like Medical. The company has strong respect for in-depth technical knowledge and has established a base to help new products make best use of the technology base.
It is specially making big inroads in automotive industry , winning new businesses from other customer apart from GM, from whichit had spun off about a decade ago.
If you are looking for a rewarding career being a Electrical , mechanical of Embedded software engineer, working on the cutting edge of technolgy in automotive domain, this is the place to be.

ConsThe company has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing for about 2-3 years now. With the economic downturn its turning out to be much harder for the organisation to pull it out of it. With weakened Automotive industry and loss of business with lot of automakers, the future of the organisation that is already in a messed up financial state looks bleak unless it takes some very strong measures, innovates in the way it does business, and the forays its making in other domains other than autmotive to reduce the risk of exposure to only one business.
Unless some very clear actions and results emerge on the above points , thinking of a long term career in Delphi is a risk.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe senior management should strongly focus on getting the company out of Chapter 11 as soon as possible. Also it has to see in the current economic situation what avenues it can look for to diversify its portfolio if business above and beyond just autmotive to hedge the risk of complete exposure to an already week worldwide automotive industry.
The company has strong expertise in electrical, mechanical and embedded sofware engineering. This combination can be best made use of to launch itself in other businesses where it sees opportunity. It has already done the same in Medical and has come out with couple of successful products. Perhaps looking at how Health care industry is growing, it should look at coming up with some more Medical equipments, making use of its technical expertise.

Delphi Corporation

Senior Program Manager (Current Employee)
Kokomo, IN (US)

I have been working at Delphi full-time for more than 10 years

ProsDecent benefit package, matched time with company, Christmas break, and other holidays off. Great people to work with and technically competent.

ConsWas a great place to work @ one time but management has continued to chase the bottom line. People have left and are not being replaced. The result is vey low morale and a sweat shop type environment. The stress is over whelming and family life does not exist.

I worked at Delphi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people to work with, lots of expertise

ConsIt acts like a large company, so things are slow at times. Bankruptcy made decision making questionable. Alot of brain drain in 2008 left many holes in the organization.

Big Ocean in a small boat. Lots of captains and one guy to row.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Delphi full-time

ProsLongevity can happen. 401K match is descent.

ConsManagement Turn-over pushing experienced people out of the way with newer faster models that make a lot of noise, move very fast, make people work faster and then find out they couldn't meet expectations, then blame somebody else Work is buzier. A lot of wheel spinning is the true result. Skipping steps creates potholes. Payscale does not keep up with inflation.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your key people before it's too late!
Figure out who they are and treat them like gold !!

"Engineering Manager"

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Delphi for more than 10 years

ProsWorld class training, nice co workers, global presence, mature systems.

ConsCompensation is biased, capped professional growth, moving up in the organization is more a function of whom you know than your competence, learning systems and management is becoming extensively segmented

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople ware, recognize seniority and allow them to take on new challenges that can revamp careers.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
