Current Employee - Software Engineer  in  Bangalore
Current Employee - Software Engineer in Bangalore

    Pros

    1.Good work-life balance
2.OK Salary compared to its competitors Bosch, Conti. But its pathetic compared to other industries
3.Long tea-coffee breaks. No one opposes that :)

    Cons

    1. Inflated CTC. Very less in-hand
    2. No domain knowledge building is possible. Bangalore is just a software center, with all manual
repititive, manual software work dumped from other locations.
    3. Very poor career growth. There are 10 year experience guys still doing petty bug fixes.
    4. Some managers deal in number of hours spent in office. Some are very particular about completion of 45 hours, regardless of the work completion
    5. Too much mindless process oriented. Half the productive time goes in processes.
    6. Inflexible working hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please build capability and domain expertise and cease to be just a software center

Not a professional company to work for (Depends entirely on the team you work for)

Current Employee - Technical Lead  in  Bangalore
Current Employee - Technical Lead in Bangalore

    Pros

Good learning if you have time (which you will not have)

    Cons

The team you join is very important. Few teams are notorious in Delphi for its horrible work culture and improper management. Senior management doesnt care about the employees as long as they are generating revenue from them. Tehy expect you to sit in ur place and work from morning till evening. My team especially loves to do micromanagement which is very irritating. They expect the status to be intimated every 2 hrs. They ask your work status when you go for a break.

All in all a very demotivating place to work for... :(
Writing this from my personal bad experience and my colleagues bad experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DO not allow micromanagement. Respect employees and have a healthy work life balance.

    Pros

This was my first job after i graduated from college. Naturally i was very excited and eager to prove myself. The initial training is excellent. The work depends on what project you will be put into. Some projects are really interesting and challenging. The project I was working was very interesting. If you do a good job there are lot of opportunities for growth. I had to quit because i decided to pursue a graduate degree.

    Cons

    * Poor management
    * This is a very niche industry
    * Not enough challenging work
    * Sometimes promotions are not given to right people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Very important to recognise true talent
    * The processes that are being following is very good
    * Management needs to be more strealined

    Pros

There is a lot of exposure to technology. If you are a self learner this is a good place to work.

    Cons

Not an Open-culture as the management claims.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the good people in the company, else they will leave. Appreciation for an employee's efforts must be equal in all teams. The people engagement practices claimed to be implemented must be implemented more effectively.

Delphi company review from Employee's standpoint

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Senior Management
    • Career Opportunities
    Current Employee - Tech Lead
    Current Employee - Tech Lead

    Pros

The best reasons to work for Delphi are their diversity and depth in technology, which ranges from autmotive design, electronics and safety, telematics, radios and lately also in new ventures like Medical. The company has strong respect for in-depth technical knowledge and has established a base to help new products make best use of the technology base.
It is specially making big inroads in automotive industry , winning new businesses from other customer apart from GM, from whichit had spun off about a decade ago.
If you are looking for a rewarding career being a Electrical , mechanical of Embedded software engineer, working on the cutting edge of technolgy in automotive domain, this is the place to be.

    Cons

The company has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing for about 2-3 years now. With the economic downturn its turning out to be much harder for the organisation to pull it out of it. With weakened Automotive industry and loss of business with lot of automakers, the future of the organisation that is already in a messed up financial state looks bleak unless it takes some very strong measures, innovates in the way it does business, and the forays its making in other domains other than autmotive to reduce the risk of exposure to only one business.
Unless some very clear actions and results emerge on the above points , thinking of a long term career in Delphi is a risk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The senior management should strongly focus on getting the company out of Chapter 11 as soon as possible. Also it has to see in the current economic situation what avenues it can look for to diversify its portfolio if business above and beyond just autmotive to hedge the risk of complete exposure to an already week worldwide automotive industry.
The company has strong expertise in electrical, mechanical and embedded sofware engineering. This combination can be best made use of to launch itself in other businesses where it sees opportunity. It has already done the same in Medical and has come out with couple of successful products. Perhaps looking at how Health care industry is growing, it should look at coming up with some more Medical equipments, making use of its technical expertise.
