    Pros

The people at DG are fantastic, and the work is fulfilling. The company's adopted Purpose, Vision, and Values (see company website) are taken seriously by the employees. The company has given the employees a good selection of insurance benefits to chose from, for basic health, vision, dental and life.

    Cons

At times the work-life balance is difficult, especially for those working in the 24x7 parts of the company. Some of those teams don't have the personnel to easily accommodate someone taking their paid time off.. To compensate for that, the company has a "use it or lose it" policy on PTO. Many people across the company reach this threshold before managing to schedule time off.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should be praised for taking steps to better understand how the employees feel about the direction of the company. Next step is to take action, and improve what it is like to work for DG.

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement are very much available. Culture is that you should seize the moment and motivate yourself, things don't get handed to you. This makes some people upset, but it aligns with my way of thinking.

    Cons

Pay for the same position is wonky and the range is vast. I dislike someone getting payed considerably less or more then the person next to them for doing the same job and having similar backgrounds.

    Advice to Management

Communication company direction better. Let us know updates and the employees will be able to offer up some time to work on side projects to make us all successful. Leaving employees in the dark inevitably serves only to lower moral as negativity can't be easily combated.

    Pros

    Work with good people.
    Product is solid and interesting.
Free bagels & donuts every Tuesday morning.
    Decent pay.
    Relaxed work environment for most.
    Very relaxed dress standards.

    Cons

Very top heavy. Layoffs of the rabble, but constantly hiring more VPs.
Budgets are only managed at Director-level and above. Managers & Supervisors aren't trusted to maintain their own budgets.
With the most recent SLT switch, employees have become less and less important. Focus is completely on revenue and pleasing the Board. Less perks, less holidays, and now no bonuses for employees below Director level.
Some departments are run well with good leadership, but others are run by 'Good Ole Boy' network.

    Advice to Management

We get it: businesses exist to make money and employees are a necessary evil. "I don't think that way!", you may say. Well, find an impartial source to ask your employees how many don't feel that way. You will be surprised ... which is sad.

    Fairly good benefits

    Cons

    Disorganized
Takes time to learn processes because very little is written down
Periodic layoffs of groups, therefore good people are let go

    Advice to Management

    Reduce layoffs

    Pros

DG has some interesting technologies, but their highly matrixed management and technology fiefdoms make it nearly impossible to introduce modern technologies or bring them forward into the 21st century.

    Cons

    - Too many dimensions of matrix management. Wasted lots of time repeating status to various dimensions.
    - The IT department is living in the 90's. Favorite quote, "Flash-based storage is not enterprise class".
    - Tasks for the secret operations are used as an excuse not to support the rest of the organization.

    Advice to Management

    Eliminate wasteful matrix management dimensions.
Bring in new IT management that understands modern technologies

    Pros

-great place to level up technology skills
-handful of fun social events annually
    -great co-workers and managers
-"a storage company that sells imagery"
-managers willing to accommodate work / life balance
-managers also willing to try new ideas / process changes to an extent
-awesome mission of supplying the world of satellite imagery
    -fairly casual dress environment

    Cons

    -certain groups can be clique-y
-certain processes and protocols are half-baked / executed
-massive lay offs every 2 years makes one wonder of top mgt. / future
-seems too reliant on government contract(s) / income
-certain individuals are treated specially (unwillingly to follow through with consequences or actions to curb negative behaviors)
-the lax environment can breed some hostile work encounters and negative interactions
-work load balance issues amongst team members / teams
-"backdoors" and band-aid fixes for completing tasks / projects
-lack of true / unifying leadership amongst certain groups

    Advice to Management

The culture and values for DigitalGlobe seem to be a front, a bit cultish, and empty -you talk a good game, but actions and business decisions seem to prove otherwise... I am hopeful DG stays relevant and continues to be the front runner for satellite imagery services (you can do it!) :)

    Pros

Great benefits. Great work-life balance. Both the industry and the company are growing.

    Cons

Death by a thousand meetings. Decisions are made by consensus. There does not appear to be a plan.

    Advice to Management

Make some decisions. There is way too much design-by-consensus.

    Pros

Certain Lines of Business are good and lead well, other are not!
Benefits and work life balance are excellent!
    Co-workers were great.
Food Trucks for all staff several times a year.
    Gym for working out.

    Cons

Avoid the Production-Information Line of Business at all costs. Poor lead management in all but one department; project management.
Big lay-off in Feb after another record setting quarter, REALLY? Morale at all time low, many senior staff let go in favor of lower paid recent college grads.
The re-org is the same show from 7-8 years ago.
No accountability (at all levels) many staff would like it but seems to never get traction with management.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach, actually read and listen to employees and what is written in the "surveys" you pay to get done.
Did they ever read "Good to Great?" DG could be Great but consistently strives for only Good and just getting by.
Your directors are telling you only what you want to hear, SLT wake up you are out of touch!
It's telling how many of the reviews are saying the same thing over and over.
