I have been working at Dillard's

    Pros

    Flexible schedule
    Good hours
    Great pay
    Benefits for full time employees

    Cons

Lazy employees not getting properly delt with.
    Lack of training program

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need a better discipline process. Write up after wrote up and nothing happens to the lazy workers is ridiculous . You don't need to pay them to stand around for hours and play on their phones.
The training program needs structure. You need designated trainers to properly train the new employees coming in not just whoever happens to be on the floor that day.

I have been working at Dillard's

    Pros

    Great pay and employee discounts

    Cons

    No personal growth,
Having to compete against veterans sales associate for a sale,
Having to chase after people to get the sale,
Pay cuts if quota not met even if you only work from 6pm - 9pm shifts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would consider lowering quota to realistic numbers, there are times that people just aren't shopping and there is nothing we employees can do about it.

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bill Dillard ll is a very intelligent and brilliant man (I was was lucky to interact with him personally on many business
strategies.) He should take the time to talk to more sales associates when he is in stores so they can understand his
his vision for Dillard's future better.

I have been working at Dillard's

    Pros

Salary is respectable for retail, sense of satisfaction when goals are met, you receive credit (promotions and salary boosts) for your hard work. Off on thanksgiving.

    Cons

Yearly reviews are vague at best, racial diversity is not visible after sales management positions, and completion of daily tasks often overshadow training opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out where managers would like to take their careers, and if they're worth the time; put them in position by coaching and developing them to pursue those goals.

    I worked at Dillard's

    Pros

Pays well considering it is retail. You get 50% off one day after you are hired. Every month there is an additional percent off for managers.

    Cons

Hours are really long and hard. You have to work most weekends/holiday because it is retail. You have to be very orginazed to stay on top of your game.

I have been working at Dillard's part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is great. Different reps offer free merchandise if you sell their products. Chance to actually help women feel better about themselves. You can easily develop a clientele by being personable and obtaining your client's needs.

    Cons

When I began working for Dillard's 11 years ago, customer service was very important to the company. It was the reason most people shopped at Dillard's. They didn't mind paying the prices because they received excellent customer service. But it seems the company is pushing more and more for sales and not emphasizing customer service and customer satisfaction.
Also, we are expected to "outsourse". We are required to take a large amount of merchandise to other businesses and get their customers to buy our products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start emphasizing customer service again with the employees. Stop the outsourcing demands.
