I worked at EMC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

You work among great minds, the so called "scientists of the industry". The managers are very approachable. The promotions as I observed in my team were completely performance based.

    Cons

The company is little slow in its entire process of hiring interns. It has 2-week training program for all the new joiners to get them on board with EMC technologies and the work their department is involved in.

    Pros

Benefits are great, WFH/working remotely is a great benefit provided. Lots of opportunities for education and learning. Large focus on training. Focus a lot toward working with different business units to improve cohesiveness.

    Cons

Work culture has been moving away from that of a product company to that of a more service driven company.

I worked at EMC full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I joined here after verifying all glassdoor reviews and checking with multiple sources. Still, ended up in a project exactly opposite to my expectations and role. So, it all depends on how willing you are to adapt to the culture and expectations. It can pretty much happen to you, if you don't get it right with your manager. I quit just because of this very reason. I didn't like the role and responsibilities assigned to me.

As such there are many good things about the company:

    a. Work from home.
    b. Decent Pay.
    c. Employee friendly policies i.e. parental mediclaim policy, personal insurance, car lease program and personal loan are best in the industry.
    d. Processes seem to be stream-lined.
    e. You will get to work on latest platforms/technologies, if you are lucky.

    Cons

    a. Laid back people all around, detrimental for long term. Every body is in his comfort zone and is unwilling to get himself on the line.
    b. Investing aggressively in cloud-platform, platform-as-a-service, big-data, analytics ,etc. Somehow, i feel they are late in the game and will require a big turn-around to give Amazon, Google and other established players a run for their money.
    c. Work from home is abused by most people.
    d. Recently, it was ranked in Top 25 places to work in 2014. On my last day, there wasn't anyone who took my exit interview or my feedback. And, I knew my last day only on the day before. So, you can decide for yourself.
    e. Rumours of getting acquired.
    f. More of a cost-center than an innovation/R&D center.

    Pros

Work from home. benefits and learning opportunity through training and focus on new technology.
    .

    Cons

Not good work in india. People Strive for survival and status quo. Do not let change the team and retain in same team to layoff in the end.Large layoffs happens again and again. No opportunity is given to change your team . Either get layoff or leave the company.Outlook for company getting worse day by day .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop mindless layoff and have a plan. Allow people to move to different units.

I worked at EMC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

EMC gives lots of opportunity to learn new technologies. Its investment in training for employees stands out and is better than most organization in the IT world. Facilities and policies are employee friendly. IT and HR systems are pretty good. You get to interact with the top bosses and hence have a clear view of where the organization is heading

    Cons

Needs more flexibility in internal movements for skilled employees across different centers of globe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs more flexibility in internal movements for employees across globe.
New hire managers must be educated on core EMC culture so that we do not loose our culture amid employee being hired from different organization, specially managers.
