Poor treatment to employee and even middle management. Success is nor praised nor rewarded. No on gets promoted.

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA (US)

Pros-"Bridge" East and West markets at low cost for non-english speaking Chinese.
    Successful in niche market.

    -Standard benefits:
Medical, eye, dental healthcare. Paid federal holidays. 5 days vacation, more with promotion. 401k, ~$3k company stock collectible a couple years if your are still with the company.

    -Experience:
Exposure to more responsibilities than a teller.

    Cons-No commission:
No commission no incentive. Incentive through fear, not rewards. ie: CSRs are required to submit referrals for employee quarterly reviews but prospects are not used.

    -Unrealistic goals:
ie: more than double deposit amount within a year.

-Unacceptable IT (High Risk) (Much repetitive/redundant manual paperwork):
Computers freeze frequently, transaction may be unbalanced with no way for reversal other than a documented force balance by accounting. No check scanners and money scanners at each station. Customer's electronic information and signatures are incomplete.

    -No security against criminals:
no bulletproof glass, no security guards. EWB branch locations have been robbed countless times.

    -HR:
Understaffed at 2 employees and few assistants to sort rampant office politics.
They protect the corporation's interests, not yours.

    -Harassment:
Much blaming, fighting words, favoritism, and distrust.

    -Mediocre training:
Coworkers do not teach, Branch support is hit or miss, electronic procedures are outdated. Google/investopedia guidelines and government regulations on your own time.

    -Little growth opportunity:
    Rarely promote from within.

    Great Learning Experience!

Assistant Vice President (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsGreat benefits, great company , promotions come when you work hard!

ConsLanguage barriers, 90% of the staff is non-asian & unfortunately they don't speak the language.

    Just your typical mid-sized bank

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAs the saying goes: "a bad apple can ruin the bunch". The overall work force for this Bank is good but the few who are in strategic managerial positions makes it a bit questionable.

ConsRogue and scheming management who are prone to and encourage back scratching for promotion; placing unqualified, overly-biased friends and family members in key positions that affect the numerous underlings below them. While finding ways to remove partners who do their job well and replacing them who is completely incompetent.
Also, as a person of non-Chinese decent and/or non-Chinese speaking working for this bank; you'll constantly get the feeling you're being talked about; especially at the branch level.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing; it's how corporations are ran...and will continue to be ran.

    Senior Vice President

SVP (Former Employee) El Monte, CA (US)

ProsStrong financials, smart executives, good business model. Tapped into the right market at the right time.

ConsExecutives manage their people through criticism and fear tactics. Lack of real planning create knee jerk reactions and back peddling. Executives keep leaders in place even when the employee turn over is through the roof . If you are non Asian you will never be trusted, credible or in their club .

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing and you will keep getting the same results .

    Got under the wrong boss..

Assistant Vice President (Former Employee) Union City, CA (US)

ProsSenior management had the foresight and business skills to navigate the financial crisis that took down some ore their competitors. Most people are nice and friendly.

ConsI don't have anything negative to say about the company itself. I simply had the misfortune of being under a manager who did not maintain one set of direction from one day to the next. I don't believe that manager is there any longer, so it's probably a decent place to work. I have heard they consolidated some of Jaheim functions to the branches, so I don't know how that has effected the culture or the job duties.

Advice to Senior ManagementCongratulations on navigating the real estate meltdown. I have nothing particularly negative or glowingly positive to say.

    Retail banking

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWas an exciting place to work for until the company expended to its size now and new management. You can learn a lot and be taken care of IF you are under the right boss. Healthcare costs are reasonable.

ConsNew management cares only for numbers. Low employee morale. Hard work is usually unrecognized. Management is biased. HR is not far behind; employee concerns are overlooked. SIGNIFICANT salary gaps for all positions. Low to non-existent salary raises. Goals are unrealistic and not reflected in pay level. Lots of office politics. "Employee engagement" is non-existent.

Advice to Senior ManagementShould build a reward incentive culture instead of a punishment based work environment to keep talents.

    Very poor experience, bad management

(Former Employee) El Monte, CA (US)

ProsThey invested millions of dollars in new technology, which was a good learning experience. There were a few talented people on my team.

ConsMost of my team members never spoke, they just kept to themselves and did not like to share their knowledge. Not a sociable atmosphere at all.

The El Monte Operations center is in a terrible area, the building was old, smelly and filled with roaches. The A/C didn't work most of the time. Being located in the San Gabriel Valley where the average summer temperature is 100°, it was often unbearable.

Management is a joke. The same bad managers keep getting promoted over and over again, making more and more money. A lot of office politics.

The HR department is also a joke. When you have a legitimate complaint against your supervisor, they side with the company, not yours.

Employee favoritism is HUGE in this company. You can do a great job and get nothing (no compliments, feedback on your performance, raise, or bonus), or you can do a lousy job and get promoted AND a raise, if you are “in” with the right manager. They also eliminated the work from home policy, but some certain “favorite” people still got to work from home.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your good employees with respect, give them the raises and bonuses they deserve for doing a great job and sacrificing so much overtime (on evenings and weekends) to get your systems installed. And STOP the employee favoritism by managers!!

Not a good place to work at

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIf you don't speak English well and don't have a degree in the US, you can probably look here and find a okay job here.

ConsA lot of office politics, backstabbing and favoritism.
Very poor English communication even among upper managements.
The company also treats employees poorly. They underpay employees and push very hard for unrealistic goals.

Good to start but horrible for long turn

Customer Service Specialist (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA (US)

ProsSmall company, but you can learn a lot.

ConsLots of dramas. Lots of pressure. Goal is set at very high. There's no way you can reach it. Also under pay their empolyees.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe realistic when setting goals

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
