I have been working at A.C. Moore full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Most co workers are great, some nice past customers, awesome job if you love art, crafts, yarn, floral. New take over by a major craft company slowly but surely making things better including: some lower prices and some great new products. Great vacation time to be earned the longer you are there.

Cons

New discount is lousy, too many new hire managers who are lazy, pay is not great but this is retail. Depending on the store: no organization. NO health benefits to MA residents. Pay scales are lousy to those who have worked over 12+ years and can no longer get a raise. Coupons are a major hassle. Signing program needs massive improvement.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please work on hiring quality managers. A lot of managers are throw aways other companies and they come in and sit back and expect everyone else to run the store for them. They have no desire to learn what is best for the customers, employees and the store. Also managers should respect each other and their employees. And don't be afraid to go to your DM if you have things going on in your store. Get rid of employees who start trouble on a constant basis. It's awful for moral

    Pros

fun atmosphere, great if you love crafts, salary manager pay good.

    Cons

They keep adding hours to manager sch- mandatory two 12-hour work days and 6 day work weeks for 3 1/2 months, next year maybe 5 months. Home office employees are now working 12 hour days six days a week. They keep adding new rules to managers sch, like no manager can leave before 5pm, a keep cutting benefits like the store discount.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good managers should not have to be at their stores all day to get things done. There have been several studies proving that forced overtime actually decreases productivity. Read those studies before you loose all your talent!

    Pros

Fun designing custom framing projects. Xtra Pay on holidays.

    Cons

Seems to me that management doesn't have the ability to speak to their staff in an authoritative manor. Almost as if managers are scared to correct employees. This company was just taken over by a new owner and instead of making great changes to the new company, they are following the bad habbits of the previous owner who ran the company into bankruptcy. They just hired a new frame shop supervisor with little experience and it's been down hill ever since. With multiple complaints from many customers no changes have been made. So I have to move on though I love my job or I used to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek out your talented employees and promote EXPERIENCED personnel to your entire companies leading frame shop. If your frame shop is making almost 50% of your stores sales, and is always in the top three stores in the entire company, hire experienced managers to handle such a productive and profitable entity of your company.
