I worked at Aetna full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

There are many different employment opportunities available. Work at home options are great. Great 401k match. Casual environment. The CEO implements an open-minded attitude. Workers are friendly, and teams tend to have a family-like feel to them.

Cons

The salaries at Aetna tend to be low, unless you are in management. Their business strategy seems to have been to offer early retirement to the experienced workers, and snag those struggling in the tough economy at a low salary. The low salaries cause a poor turnover rate, and this hurts teams that have jobs with steep learning curves. Communication between teams is poor. There are many occurrences of inefficiencies that cause resources to be poorly managed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be less stingy with employees that bring great value to you.

I worked at Aetna full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Talented people, a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. Beautiful, historic home office - refitted and awards Leeds recognition for sustainability. Strong, well built telework support. Good records management program.

    Cons

Since Ron Williams departure moral is down, trust in leadership is down, lay-offs and reduction in force continue to demoralize. Strategic projects are started and then struggle for funding, resources, management attention. Sad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Board should insist that the employee survey is re-instituted and carefully read the comments.

    Pros

Aetna is a great place to workl! Training programs are good, good pay, good benefits which include wellness incentives, funding for education, etc.etc. They also have a significant work-at-home workforce.

    Cons

Aetna overall - none. Every big company will have some managers with values that don't fit with the overall culture, however.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead management in the EAP area have made some significantly bad decisions, but then, you already know that.
