Current Employee - Senior Program Manager in Seattle, WA (US)

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Tons of opportunity to move around to different businesses
Lots of autonomy
Opportunity for ownership
Really smart people in business and tech
Fast paced

Cons

Lots of writing and analysis - everything must be proven
Company is very stingy (employee contribution for medical is high for the tech industry, cheap desks, etc.)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is easier to leave Amazon at one level and come back at a higher level than to promote.
We need to streamline promoting from within.

Satisfied experience, learned an enormous amount as Software Engineer college intern

Former Employee - Software Engineer  in  Seattle, WA (US)
Former Employee - Software Engineer in Seattle, WA (US)

I worked at Amazon.com as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Many systems and products, so huge opportunity to learn, do anything, and move around. Company takes customer experience seriously, so you learn to be in an environment that can not fail, and must perform. Flexible hours and work schedule.

    Cons

Very independent work, and difficult to learn so many systems at once. Seeking help is difficult because only a select few know the systems, and they're extremely busy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better mentorship and more help on ramp up.
