I worked at American Express full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Employee benefits - health, dental, RRSP, Stock options
On site conveniences - convenience store, gym, masseuse
Opportunities for advancements with courses (dependent on leader)

Cons

HR's inconsistent approach to reporting leaders and associated discrepancies
Heavy focus on level within the organization with subsequent blocking of employees' advancement

Advice to ManagementAdvice

An employee's worth should be dependent on his / her successes and productivity and not based on a "band" level within the hierarchy.

I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It has been a great company to work for
    great work life balance

too many rif's (reduction in force) and reorgs
leadership hire / fire and review you based on perception, not what you can do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    stop outsourcing so much.
management lays off people when they turn 60.
management will lay you off too if they don't like you, even if you are brilliant.
stop buying the kiss ass crap when people brown nose you or want to give presentations. That does not make them good, just because they are able to talk in front of a lot of people.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Approves of CEO
