Pros

Well known to be best-in-class for benefits, Amgen is a great place to work for those who truly care about contributing at their workplace on a daily basis. The company requires foresightedness and maturity of its employees.

Cons

As a large company, Amgen has many of the trappings of size (e.g. slower decision making, heirarchy, work process complexities).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please continue to be proactive and considerate of your staff - and thank you for a great experience.

    Pros

Amgen pays great and is very focused on staff wellness, development and work/life balance. Once it was a great company to work for and the feeling of collaboration was unmatched. The environment was one that allowed staff to grow and succeed.

    Cons

Amgen has steadily been outsourcing every possible function within the company and contingent workers are not treated with the same regard as full time employees. Even staff having transitioned to CW positions are suddenly "less than" and Amgen is sure to make sure that CW's are aware of their status. The recent leadership changes have created a cutthroat corporation, focused only on the bottom dollar rather than a company that has a genuine concern for staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop outsourcing - it's killing company morale.

I worked at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Really smart, hardworking, busy people
Silicon-valley type benefits for southern cal
    Technology-heavy work environment

    Cons

Last few years mgmt has been heavy-handed with cost-cutting. People with 10-15 years tenure were let go with a few hours notice.
    No visibility to mgmt decision-making.
Bottom-line is the stock price. So watch your back and keep a step-ahead of layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Short-sighted decision-making, with advice fed by management consultants is harming the morale and loyalty of employees
