Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are treated a bit too much as a number. Even rated as TC and having 10 years of CMP exp at R&D, field support, demo I was offered VSP. This was bad for Applied materials, but I am happy to not travel in this point in my life so it worked out.

    Former Employee - Electrical Engineer

I worked at Applied Materials full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Engineers are for the most part quite intelligent and easy to get along with.
Many projects were quite interesting and cutting-edge.
Good benefits package compared to similar companies (401K matching, employee stock purchase plan, health care).

    Cons

Too many reorganizations -- I had a new manager every year.
Bad project management in the division I worked in -- frequent late cancellations, scrambling.
Office politics also frequently got in the way of project completion.
During downturns, the cost-cutting was to the point of ridiculousness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Annual reorganization is highly disruptive and bad for employee morale.
