I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Excellent people who have a great deal of expertise and professional capability across all functional areas.
Base salary is competitive, though bonus payments, - tied to business results- are rarely qualified for.

Cons

No long term vision of what the company wants to be or achieve. Immediate focus is on achieving a string of profitable quarters in readiness for a IPO and very little else. Cost cutting in the form of staff layoffs is occurring at the end of every Quarter leaving less do do the same amount of work.
Significant turn-over at senior levels leading to lack of consistent direction.
Very hierarchical structure with little to no empowerment to make decisions at lower levels.

    good technology, adaquate product set, nice people

    Cons

    upper management not qualified to bring about success, constant "stack ranking" of employees with a steady stream of layoffs.
