I have been working at Columbia University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Working in the chemistry/physics field, the environment here is highly collaborative with access to a great range of valuable equipment. Salaries highly vary.

    Cons

Ability is very dependent on the group you join. Your advisor may be completely inadequate to handle the responsibilities. Procuring items or dealing the the bureaucratic side very painstaking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make bureaucracy more efficient.

I have been working at Columbia University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are great to work with, collegiate environment, opens up the window to building new connections and opportunities, enjoy the opportunity to work with other people across different discplines

    Cons

Very stagnant academic environment, too many postodocs hanging around hoping for an academic job to open, not enough alternatives for a career outside academia discussed, lack of diversity in engineering especially women and minorities, wish for more opprotunities to grow and improve soft skills outside of the laboratory.
