Former Employee - Field Sales Representative

I worked at Covidien full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Covidien has some great products on the Endovenous side of the business. Strong field sales groups before the layoffs in October 2012.

Cons

Employees are treated like a number. It doesn't matter how well you perform your job or awards you have won when they cut/layoff you are still just a number.
Marketing has missed the "mark" so many times. Always chasing the competition and missing prime opportunities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize talent when you have it. Remove dead weight. Just because someone lives in the correct area doesn't mean they are doing a great job. You cut the wrong people.

    Pros

6% 401K match, employee stock purchase program, 3 weeks of vacation.

    Cons

Zero opportunity for advancement, bonus payout is a joke, toxic finger-pointing culture, pay raises that do no keep up with inflation, certain members of senior management are unethical and incompetent. Overall this is a dead end job at a company that invests absolutely nothing in its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change current senior management at the Atlanta DC

I have been working at Covidien full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Don't say you weren't warned !
They do layoffs without a second thought. They don't care about their employees. Top layers protect each other.

    Cons

Dysfunctional, toxic, back-woods culture. Below-average pay, poor benefits and the terrible leadership. Place is rotten from top down. In a business, you usually see a bad apple here and there. At Covidien-Hazelwood, you see nothing but bad and ineffective managers, directors, VP's, etc. Top heavy beyond belief. Silo's left and right. No interest in doing the right things. They just want to do stuff because the appearance of doing work is rewarded, not doing the right work. Read the reviews and you see a common thread in that the young interns are the only ones giving mediocre or above average reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. You wouldn't know a good idea under any circumstances.
