Former Employee - Student Assistant in Lynnwood, WA (US)
Former Employee - Student Assistant in Lynnwood, WA (US)

I worked at Edmonds Community College part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Get a chance to meet people, and help them with their studies.
Get the opportunity to encourage students and monitor their progress in their classes.
Get a chance to review materials from some classes, so that those materials are fresh at all times.

Cons

Sometimes there are limited students, so it is more time to commute for tutoring, than the actual pay.
There are some students that don't want to try harder, which is demoralizing; especially because you do your best, and they just don't have any progress.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to assign more students to the tutors. Make the hassle of going to the campus worthwhile.

I have been working at Edmonds Community College

    Pros

Edmonds Community Colleges is a great place to work when you are earning your degree there. The work environment is friendly, social, and positive.

    Cons

The pay is on the lower side, and the parking is horrible at times. The office technology could use an upgrade.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more onsite software developers, specifically web-services developers. Develop your own web services instead of contracting out to companies who provide crappy products (products the students hardly use.)

I worked at Edmonds Community College as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My contribution to the team; testing, documentation, procedural writing (publication). Communication as a group brought about new personalities and leadership.

    Cons

Competition; loose sight of what the point actually was. insufficient amount of training; schedule timing learn as you go it was a benefit in the end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep going; I believe in you.
