I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Worked with great people in my department

Cons

Layoffs every few months for the last 3 years, company is facing a huge whistleblower lawsuit and regulatory changes due to Gainful Employment rules. Best people are quitting if they haven't already been laid off. Upper management only cares about keeping investors like Goldman Sachs happy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about what happens to the students again.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the employees are nice caring individuals

    Cons

Management has no clue on how to manage in the current market environment. They are living off of past success and the boom in for-profit education. Now that the industry is under scrutiny and enrollments are down there is no strategy to recover and grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage your people better than you do your expenses. The bottom line is cost. You are not competitively priced and community and state schools will start to bury you.
