I worked at Electronic Arts full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Great perks around campuses
Loads of talented people
Great discounts
Decent compensation
You can seemingly skate by and be lazy for years if you're into that sort of thing

Cons

Bloated management structures
Lack of drive towards innovation or new IP
Absolutely not a meritocracy
Senior staff seems to still be in place (and getting promoted) after doing nothing but drive the stock price into the dirt

Advice to ManagementAdvice

How is JR still the CEO?!? And Peter Moore COO?! Since those two joined EA the stock has been in a nose dive. Obviously not everything is their fault, but this company needs new blood and fresh ideas.

Former Employee - QA Tester in Emeryville, CA (US)

I worked at Electronic Arts as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

EA is a leader in the gaming industry, with opportunities to be exposed to many different aspects such as QA, development, project management, marketing, etc. Not to mention many different genres of games. Most of the people I worked with loved their jobs and were excited about what they do. Of course, getting discounts on game titles doesn't hurt.

    Cons

It can be difficult to move from contract to full-time. One issue with the industry in general is that you can certainly expect some long nights and weekends, especially leading up to launch day. As with any large company, dealing with the bureaucracy can be frustrating at times.
