I have been working at Essilor of America full-time

Pros

In the marketing department they are focused on moving people around quite a bit to build their skill set. They also have a pretty good benefits package. Flexible work/life balance depending on your manager.

Cons

It's a fairly male driven company and it's very important to schmooze with the upper management or you're not likely to move far or fast.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a more objective promotion system.

I worked at Essilor of America full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are great. Flexible hours helped the environment to be tolerable at times. Have kept some of the relationships going.

    Cons

They down-size departments and expect the remaining employees to pick up the workload. Working 12+ hours a day plus weekend hours is part of business for middle and upper management. Stressilor was the nick-named given to the company by the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen constructively to employee concerns. Reward the hourly employees, not just managers with raises and bonus.

I worked at Essilor of America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a Business Analyst, I was involved in everything in the business. Great resume builder and the experience was great.

    Cons

We as analysts drove the ideas and implementation but rarely got the credit we deserved. Most executives can't read financial statements and thus can't manage to one. I ended up giving free accounting and finance classes to those paid much better than I was both in field and in Dallas. Loyalty and opportunites seem to be wth same people: those who grew up in optics, those whose families are tied to optics and those who never off up original or new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you go out of your way to hire those from outside the business, you might want to listen to them and not run them off. Just because you didn't run an edger or a surfacing machine at one point in your life doesn't mean you don't understand the business. If executives are to manamge to P&L results, make sure they can read one and know what simple things like margin, net sales versus gross sales, or income statement versus a balance sheet really are. And John Carrier's great and ingenius plan of 'open competition within the organization' for sales was a horrible idea. When price isn't held as a constant and one shop and drop a price to steal business from it's sister shop, how is that good? Hence why margins dropped about 600 bps over 3 years once ECPs figured out how to turn you against yourself.
