Current Employee - Senior Research Engineer in Houston, TX (US)

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Research freedom relatively high compared to other industries & competitors
High caliber colleagues (technically and morally)
    Safest place on earth
    Very stable

    Cons

Ranking process is highly political, not based on performance or impact
Pay is 'just enough to keep you' according to Senior Management
    Employees not valued by management
No good locations (e.g., Houston, Houston, Houston)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are human beings. The ranking process is biased and discourages 70% of the workforce and makes them despise what otherwise would be a great company (Note: this comment comes from someone ranked in the top 1/3).

    No opinion of CEO

Former Employee - Reservoir Engineer in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

    I worked at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Force-ranking is good to ensure employee stay competitive and motivated to advance in their professional career
Excellent training as part of career milestone and being tracked by senior mgmt
Rewarding career for those with 'high potential' recognized in the first 1-3 years

    Cons

Salary not competitive - inclusive in-kind-benefit
Most outdated medical coverage - outpatient treated based on RMxx max paid by insurance is ridiculous
Oversea assignment is denied for young professional for an excuse that internal current project need people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide good reward (golden shares) not only to top 5%, many technical professional who equally performed wel deserve to be given stock options.
