Working in a company with little control over your future and performance

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time

    Pros

Good emphasis on work and life balance. Good projects to work on if your performance is good. Good pension benefits.

    Cons

Performance ranking is highly dependent on your supervisor, so you better hope to be lucky. Your career path is determined by factors beyond your control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rating and ranking system is extremely flawed and favors extroverts over introverts, even if introverts are lot more effective at their job.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

High Salaries, Great coworkers, Very diverse workforce, Excellent retirement benefits, Allows employees to quickly move up the ranks, Very safety oriented environment

    Cons

Poor hours, Little to no recognition, No transparent ranking system, Employees do not control their own moves within the company, Superficial improvement programs, "Good Old Boy" mentality, Out of date benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People are promoted too quickly and without the proper training to be able to lead efficient teams. This leads to a poor managing system all the way up the chain of command. Additionally, the work hours are not comparable to the rest of the industry leaders. It seems as if the benefits have not been updated for the younger workforce and are still geared to the baby-boomer generation.
