I have been working at Gartner full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great culture of ownership. You are empowered to achieve results and have opportunity to connect your personal values, drivers and goals with what the role and Gartner environment can offer to achieve. Motivation and recognition is key to leadership and management style. Ultimate focus on personal development, individual skill/knowledge or group training. Career progression is open to many options, moves to management or different business division. Performance is recognized and rewarded based on meritocratic standards

Cons

I really enjoy working here. Perhaps one of the possible downsides is becoming too much used to Gartner way of thinking as there is always a new project, a new idea to work on and time can fly by fast! :) It is good to reflect every now and then to get a perspective from a different angle.

    Pros

Industry leader in IT Research with great offerings
    Very smart employees
    Great customers
Great place if you want a steady job

    Cons

Policies override common sense or logic...very process and policy driven
Not a place to work to make a lot of money especially if you are a top-sales performer
Does not reward year over year success...just keeps increasing quota until you burnout

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think strategically about your top revenue generating sales performers and build a comp plan that will keep them motivated and committed to staying. Turn over has a lasting affect in the eyes of the client.

I worked at Gartner full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good to build your network with board members of the clients.

benefits are good (pension, company car, etc)

    Cons

Gartner is a sales organisation nothing more nothing less, if you love pure sales of what ever and don't have in-depth IT experience Gartner is the place to get a job. If you are into IT don't join into a sales role.

Payment is average, variable payment is terrible from a steady income perspective.

as sales you are being thought all the tricks to close the sale quickly as a Gartner sales rep you will never become a trusted advisor to your clients (this is exclusively for the analysts and executive partners). You just need to squeeze the client harder and harder for additional business.

Gartner is a company you either love or hate, nothing in between.

The external perception of Gartner is totally different than how the company works internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

best sales guys get promotions, but remember an excellent sales person is often not a great manager.

Gartner wants to grow their sales force 20% year over year, with 10% of the employees leaving each year Gartner needs to hire 30% new sales staff every year. with this large amount of new people you will net get the best of the best anymore.

    Doesn't Recommend

    No opinion of CEO
