Pros

A place that values individuality and cares about the patient and employee. Culture and benefits are pretty good. Lots of room for growth.

Cons

Everything used to be better. Roche is slowly killing what made Genentech so special. I'm not as happy as I used to be.

Advice to Management

Fight the Roche penny pinching and bring the fun culture back

    Pros

Best company I've ever worked for. Despite the Roche acquisition in 2009, this is still a top science company and great place for working parents. The benefits are many and plentiful. Even after 10 years, I am amazed at how well Genentech treats its employees. There are many opportunities to move up or over. This is a highly ethical company.

    Cons

It's large. You can get lost in the crowd. The bar for performance is very high.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.

  2. Quite the learning experience

I have been working at Genentech as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    surrounded by top talent
three weeks paid time off plus three weeks vacation
    stable
    gymnasium

    Cons

Not very many opportunities for title promotion. You could be there for 20 years and only be promoted twice; there just aren't very many levels. There are plenty of opportunities for pay increases, however.

    Advice to Management

make time for feedback from lower-level employees; they often know about issues that are not obvious to upper mgmt
