Pros

Great name recognition - the company was a great starting point. There were a lot of people that had spent their entire working life there.

Cons

Sometimes it was too big - too many layers of management at times made it tedious to get some projects completed.

Advice to Management

So far things are too big to change quickly without possibly 'breaking' a lot of longstanding ingrained policies and procedures.

    Pros

Some good people, but not always in the senior management ranks.

    Cons

Most people look out for their own career at the expense of others and this is driven by the year end reviews - as they drive comp and promotions.

    Advice to Management

Did they really "integrate" EDS people in to the HP Way!

    Pros

Mark Hurd is doing an outstanding job of fixing the operations issues at HP and re-directing formerly wasted captial into projects and investments. The company's value will be bound up in its footprint due to low cost infrastrucutre. For those who focus on operations and transactions this is great place to be.

    Cons

The consequence of driving to become a share leader based on optimized supply chain and manufacturing requires managers who are transaction oriented. The company's value will be bound up in its footprint due to low cost infrastrucutre. If you are the sort of person who invents and brings in value above the infrastructure layer, this is not the place to be.

    Advice to Management

The seams are showing. A low cost infrastructure/commodity play in devices/software and services encourges management behavior that imperils the making of a great company. Give those who deliver innovation a voice and authority. Shed the senior mangers who don't nuture innovation.
