I have been working at IBM

    Pros

Professional to the core. No arrogance about the great work that is done. Client is king. Work hard to maintain strong partnerships. Great technology that can change the world.

    Cons

Professionalism can read as too stuffy or boring. While there are some fun events such as a quarterly afternoon with beer and music, it isn't Google/Apple/Facebook-type fun. No awesome bands coming to play, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If folks want a carefree place to work, it isn't likely you will become a manager at IBM. At the low level, it can be more relaxed but as you move up, fun isn't pervasive. I don't think it necessarily should be so I am not sure they should change anything. IBM culture is professionalism even though that may be boring at times - it is dependable.

It's a great experience for a short period of time, not a long term option.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

As a consultant you are given the rare opportunity to work in a variety of Fortune 500 companies and see what they do right/wrong. You will rarely be bored.

    Cons

Road warrior becomes less of a novelty and more of a hassle. You are given zero notice when you will be shipping out to a new engagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop better means to keep employees with IBM for longer tenures. Especially in the services space ensure there is a method for sustaining employees.
