Equity research - Glad I got out when I did

Equity Research Associate (Former Employee)
Boston, MA (US)

I worked at Jefferies & Company full-time for more than a year

Pros-Serves as a good "boot camp" for people new to sell side
-You will appreciate all future jobs much more
-You learn the "red flags" of a work environment
-Decent resume-builder

Cons-Unending hours, not great pay under senior level
-Absolutely no regard whatsoever for employees as human beings. Actually not exaggerating.
-Zero, and I mean zero, HR supervision. Picture 1960's.
-All the negatives of unvestment banking lifestyle but not the pay

Advice to Senior ManagementCare a little more about the people who are helping you make your money, even if it's just a "cost of doing business" like research. Or don't , but be honest about it.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I worked at Jefferies & Company as an intern for less than a year

Pros: Awesome exposure, responsibility and visibility. Fantastic experience. Unparalleled live deal experience for a 10 week summer… Cons: Like any IB job, no personal life, many 90+ hour… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
