Pros

Family atmosphere, Working with some of the smartest people in the world. Opportunity to learn new things and be on the cutting edge of technology and defense.

Cons

No opportunity to move up, very, very slow promotions. If the government pulls funding the program you are on can be cut at anytime.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are losing middle carereer professionals because you pay the older non productive professional for to long and you under pay the lower career professioanls because they are expendable. Spend more time and effort on the middle career professionals, this is your future.

    Pros

    Benefits were excellent. 401K match. Tuition reimbursement. A lot of freedom to work the job.

    Cons

    Difficult to move laterally withing the company. No clear cut guidelines on career progression.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Start some type of "Your career with NG - 101" class that is given yearly. This would list and discuss the steps in developing one's career over the long term with NG. Talk about what is possible.

    I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    9/80 work schedule
    contributing to national defense
    interesting work, products, and projects
    (generally) good co-workers
    easy to take time off
    on-site exercise room

    Cons

    Lots of corporate double-talk: ex. great performance and record bonuses (for the few who get them) then followed by another year of 2% raises because the economy is bad.
    Raise cycle switched from 12 to 18 months, makes 2% into 1.3% annually - inflation is higher.
    "Harmonizing" benefits to "retain the best talent" with means reduced 401K match (double-talk).
    Steady reduction in benefits over last decade: insurance, pension, weekly to 2 week pay period.
    Company seems to care more about pandering to women, minorities, and homosexuals than anything else, including performance - sorry if you are a straight white male with religious beliefs.
    Too much bureaucratic oversight from "Baltimore" which dictates policy for everything but can never be questioned.
    Too many disjointed computer systems that don't talk to each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Identify and reward talent - you'd have to stop patting each other on the back and pay attention.
    End the double-talk.
    Get rid of "Baltimore" and their policies - that would save a ton of time & money.
    Stop being so cheap to your employees and calling it "affordability" or "harmonization".
    Your "engagement" effort is a farce as employees are not honestly answering the Gallop Q12 to avoid hurting the employee's direct manager.
    "Diversity" means straight white males have limited career path - seriously.
