    Pros

The language training was very thorough, as was the cultural training.

    Cons

The host country national staff was all fantastic; however, sometimes the country director and staff were not as professional. It varies so much from country to country, though, so I'm sure it's better in other places.

  2. An incredible experience that will push you past what you thought you knew about yourself.

    Pros

As a volunteer, you have a large degree of autonomy in what you do. Two years allows you to really get to know a community and work on projects that can actually help.

    Cons

Lots of variability between posts, so you've got to be independent and make the most of any situation.
