I worked at PwC full-time (more than an year)

Pros

You learn things, but more importantly you get exposed to what life really is like in an accounting firm of this size. If you find that you enjoy this sort of lifestyle, then there is no better firm than PwC. Otherwise, you should really find another career, or go to internal auditing.

Cons

Long busy season, long hours during busy season, and difficult to keep a consistent work-life balance. The job really becomes the center of your universe.

Awful place, filled with discrimination, demoralisation and office politics

Current Employee - Accountant in London, England (UK)
Current Employee - Accountant in London, England (UK)

I have been working at PwC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the people who work at PwC are genuinely kind and friendly and working with them can be a good experience. However, these people are always dominated by the loud, arrogant types and left unrecognised and demoralised.

    Cons

Deeply unfair performance management system, in which the most important trait appears to be a loud, dominant personality and in which office politics and discrimination (particularly against quieter types who get on with their work rather than talk all day) is rife
Excessive and unreasonable working hours in which staff are worked like slaves, often under unreasonable pressure. It is usual to have to work at weekends. And, at the end of the year the hardworking people end up with a demoralising negative (and often false) performance review whilst the loud (but often incompetent) ones get promoted.
The quality of work often is not great. The firm is increasingly obsessed with budgets and efficiencies and often work is signed off that is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to recognise and reward the people who actually do the work rather than the loud people who are good at office politics but often manipulate and lie about others.
Abandon your deeply unfair performance management system.
Reduce hours and hire more staff to reduce the workload
This could be (and used to be) a nice place to work if there were changes as there are some nice people
