Current Employee - Interim Engineering Intern in San Diego, CA (US)
Current Employee - Interim Engineering Intern in San Diego, CA (US)

I have been working at Qualcomm as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

1. Great Intern treatment.
2. Responsibility to do something the team depends on and not just some random testing stuff.
3. San Diego..!! :p

Cons

1. The pay during the internship was adequate but the full time offer was below par.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys are doing great with the entire experience. The only thing lacking is the compensation (which could be improved to par on other similar companies like nVidia)

A good company to work but be prepared for a heavy workload

    Pros

Good incentives. And the review cycle is once 6 months. Also San Diego being a little cheaper place, it's an awesome company to work for.

    Cons

Too many meetings at Qualcomm. Almost nothing happens in most of the meetings but you are supposed to attend them. Once you learn how to manage your time it gets easier. ALso the workload is too much especially when a new modem comes up.

A great company-overall great work culture and employee programs - Polictics between some groups are stifling.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Culture is friendly, giving, welcoming... employee development and learning opportunities are plentiful. Pay is mostly competitive. Many pluses and would absolutely recommend as a great place to work.

    Cons

Mid-upper management politics among certain groups cause discontent among staff - and executives continue to not take action to address it. Life balance is at times hard to create due to heavy workloads.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take action to enable teams to work together effectively - open lines of communication and partnership among the organization. Go back to the "we are one company" motto and provide support to those working to move the company forward and not just one product or technology.
