Shaw is a great place to work that has been dealing with a tough housing market.

Pros

Big company, small town. Great values and leadership. Industry leader in service quality and, usually, cost. Growing product and geographic diversity. Due for a substantial rebound in volume after many years of sluggishness.

Cons

Too heavy on carpet products in the mix. Difficult industry economics (housing). Strong competitive challenges in base products.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep diversifying, keep a steady hand.

    Pros

Great Employee Development programs. Good Management. HR worked hard to take care of employees

    Cons

Work on Saturdays. Still has some of the "good Ol boy" network.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue toward diversity and look outside of the company for new talent.

    Pros

Great company for stability. Very good training and great benefits. Very good, comfortable work atmosphere and is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Good for product development and overall quality of products are great.

    Cons

Does not pay well for super stars and tends to keep neutral talent while higher talented employees leave. Raise structure is no very good. Company like to keep people at median regardless of talent. Policy is strict on giving merit raises and thus does not allow much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the most productive employees and reward them or they will leave.
