I worked at Sky full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

free sky woopie doo!" other benefits only good if you get a decent salary, and werent lied to when you took the job!

    Cons

the pay is too low to really benefit from the sky shares or the pension scheme, have found management rules with lies and intimidation, more lies and bullying. HR are pretty useless if you have a problem. In terms of looking after the staff and recognising hard work, forget it, do not apply for a job here. my husband has been out of work, but i actively discouraged him from applying for a job here, as I told him, you will lose your will to live.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

value staff who work hard, rather than the current status where, i kid you not, if you are young and pretty, you will be given special treatment, and get away with doing very little, and get great bonuses and payrises, only apply for a job here if you are hot, young, and dont depend on the pay to pay your mortgage and bills, ie live at home with mum ansd dad. dont look for a career here.

I worked at Sky as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of money being spent on new product development, especially in IPTV. Seems to create CV interest.

    Cons

Top-down culture with an emphasis on Just-do-it. Nobody communicates meaningfully, instead relying on the rumor-mill to circulate information. Asking questions is frowned upon to the point where nobody bothers to ask for fear of being seen to not know or understand something.

The result is a lot of people just bluffing their way through in ignorance for fear of upsetting the management. It's ok if you've never known anything better, but you can sense the self-loathing and fear. It's like a dysfunctional family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's not easy to change a culture, but a place to start might be to setting an example of delegation with support and feedback rather than making demands. Removing silos and pointless little empires in the middle management might help also.
