I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

The pay is excellent and the benefits. The IT management team was just reduced by twenty percent. If oyu are looking for state of the art projects then this is the place to be.

Cons

IT is currently being hacked with layoffs in 2013. 20-30 percent of the staff will be let go in 2013. There is a new CIO and Directors which have a big say on how things get done from now on. I see a very small IT group in the next year.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

We have way to many vendor who supply basics Analyst H1B consultants which is in violation of the Labor Code and their Visas.

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Relaxed environment. Friendly people. Opportunities available to those who seek them.

    Cons

Hard work is not rewarded. The environment lacks energy and focus. A lot of people play politics for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the bureaucracy, cut departments, give each employee more responsibility and reward them for it.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance if you don't want to get ahead in your career.

    Cons

Non-stop propaganda about cost cutting and improving work environment without any focus on individuals. Many rounds of random lay offs and restructuring in different departments, resulting in even larger bonuses and salaries for senior management and above. Main focus is on "How great do I look in front of directors and VP", while forgetting that content and not pretty pictures matter. No personal accountability. Lots of redundant work for the sake of work. No common sense. Amother big issue is that even VPs don't have any say, except on spelling and choice of charts in the presentstions. Any level below is expected to agree and follow upper command, no matter how ridiculous it is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring upper management salaries down to the levels where they don't feel like Gods and will start showing respect to their reports and peers. Open volunteer severance to the whole company at one time, check after, only internal tranfers and hiring might be needed.
