It's a different game than the rest of the recruiting in the USA

I worked at Spencer Ogden full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You learn some valuable skills that may help you in another setting and that's about it. You get to kick a soccer ball around and play with baseball bats. Not really anything else that's positive here.

    Cons

They want you to dedicate your life to them. They start you off at 30,000 salary and will give you a bump in salary to 35000 if you hit your goals in the first three months. Easier said than done. You are expected to get a minimum of 2 hours a day on the phones and just call clients and candidates and hope you stumble across someone that wants to work with you. They are a new company in the USA, huge in the UK, but don't really know how to do business in the United States. Very cut throat environment, you have to guard your work and your progress, because if you are doing good or someone else is, everyone else wants in on what that person has. People complain all the time and have to hide it when me people get hired on, so they don't create a negative side for them to see, so they won't quit right away. High turnover rate. If you are called in for an interview don't believe anything they tell you these people lie for a living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to do business in the USA properly. Treat your employees with respect, and listen to what they have to say it creates a better work environment.

Fun office a ruse for militant environment

I have been working at Spencer Ogden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They hire great people, which make it a fun environment in the office. Grass for carpet, bright colors, looks more like a media or silicon valley office than an office in Houston. Everyone starts with 15 vacation days, get off at 3 on Fridays.

    Cons

Extremely militant environment. Management is never hands on with employees, just sitting behind glass walls (literally) holding meetings. You are expected to spend at least 2 hrs on the phone a day, hitting the phone and being "busy" any work you might need to do for your market needs to be done before 8am and after 5pm as that time is devoted to being on the phone. Must take lunch from 12:30 - 1:30p, no exceptions.

Vacations are great if you are ever allowed to take them You are questioned on why you need the time off and what you will be doing (illegal). In interview I was asked more illegal questions (where will I live, what do my parents do, questions about my religion)

Don't understand how the US does business - people operate with integrity and honesty.

Everyone here is looking for another job. High rate of turnover - chop shop

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no help in learning about the oil and gas market. You are expected to learn about it by calling people and asking them what their job is.

Your staff aren't happy, you need to realize this and do something about it or you will lose everyone.
