I worked at Starbucks

Pros

the people there are amazing, the environment is fun and safe, the company provides it self on servicing the community.

Manager was fantastic, fostered team work, and growth.,

Cons

the company lacks communication between departments, etc

It is a very hard environment to work in right now, too many lay offs all happening too often.

I have been working at Starbucks

    Pros

excellent environment, great staff, excellent customers to serve. The atmosphere is excellent especially for people looking for a first time job, because it is not a generic fast food place, but is still easy enough to learn with practice. Starbucks can also be an excellent teacher of time management, as it is critical to balance customer service, friendly conversation and speed of service. An excellent thing about Starbucks is that unlike franchises, you can work at any US location immediately, need extra cash while on vacation, pick up a shift at the local Starbucks! Tips are also awesome, as they are paid in cash weekly.

    Cons

pay could use a boost, right now it is only a few cents above minimum wage, and upward movement is severely restricted due to the economic crisis. In general chances to move up might require you to transfer to a different Starbucks location, so it really depends on how badly you want to move up. A Starbucks with a drive thru can be very stressful and several key positions require excellent multitasking abilities. Newer employees cannot work fast enough to handle demand and as such it can create a strained work environment prone to irritation and aggravation by fellow employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work on support of floor deployed baristas, especially in the area of scheduling and ordering supplies, constantly running out of ingredients prevents any increase in sales as customers know we are unreliable.

Fun with great benefits... if you don't mind the hourly pay and tired feet.

    I worked at Starbucks

    Pros

Benefits, meeting new people (fellow employees as well as the regulars that come in), fun environment, opportunities to grow within the company if you're really serious. Free pound of coffee beans EVERY WEEK. Free coffee drinks while you're on you're shift. You learn a lot of things at this job without even realizing it. Communication and socialization skills will soar. Efficiency and level of calmness during chaos will also increase.

    Cons

The pay SUCKS. Minimum wage starting. Assistant managers start around $12-14/hr in most places. I could find an office job where I can sit and relax that pays more than that. This job is tiring because you're constantly running around. You will also feel like crap because a lot of the people who come in are just there for themselves and will not show you once ounce of respect... so you eventually get used to just letting things go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. It really depends on who the person is. I can't give just a broad statement to all.
