I worked at TIAA-CREF full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

- Good work/life balance.
- Good pay.
- Encourage educational opportunities.
- Senior management conducts frequent employee meetings.

Cons

- Management has a somewhat phony "openness".
- Power and decision-making very centralized.
- Poor accountability.
- If you're not promoted within 3 or 4 years, probably never going to be.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to give more decision-making and authority to front-line employees and managers actually doing the job. Understand you don't know everything and that's OK. Nobody does.

Approves of CEO

I worked at TIAA-CREF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Look to develop employees through training opportunities
    Believe in internal promotions

    Cons

Too many layers of management and red tape
It is near impossible to get a policy changed, even if it is outdated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know there is heaps of regulation in financial services, but TIAA-CREF is painfully slow to react to changes or policies that need to be revised.
