I have been working at The Gap (more than 5 years)

Pros

The experience you learn as a visual merchandiser will be amazing. You will learn things that will help you later on in your career.
As a manager, you learn different ways into how to manage your business and employees.
Great healthcare benefits, tuition reimbursement, etc...

Cons

The company is not very rewarding to management or associates. It is hard to move up within the company. Does pay better than other companies, but does not pay enough for the amount of work given.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is very political as far as advancing in the company. Must be very competitive. Have a lot of patience.

    Pros

    Good hours
    Flexible schedule for school
    Great discount
    People are relatively nice

    Lack of training
    Lack of patience with employees
    Managers like to play avorites

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be patient when training employees and don't ust abandon them on the floor to fend for themselves Don't expect employees to be permanently chipper. Give people a chance to prove themselves beyond training.

    Focuses on associate satisfaction. Great importance on customer satisfaction as well

    Cons

    Disconnect with upper management. Not enough in store recognition for leadership team
