    I worked at The Hartford as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Very open and not an incredibly "corporate" feel. I worked in Boston for six months and was able to meet the highest level management in the office, as well as those who visited from out of state.

    Cons

    The department I was in had been recently acquired from another company, and was actually just sold to yet another company. I believe the total count is four sales/acquisitions within five years. As a result, some of my coworkers did not have the greatest sense of job security.

    Pros

    Using Lean to help streamline processes and procedures for efficiency and to cut cost.

    Cons

    * Top heavy (management)
    * Need to incorporate industry best practices into processes and procedures in all areas of the
       company.
    * Many employees resist change.
      When asked why a process/procedure cannot change, the answer is typically "because we've
      always done it this way".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Place "like" or "same" services for all Lines of Business and Enterprise in one area to provide the
      attention required and steamline processes and procedures according to industry standards and
      best practice.
    * Keep closer watch on Management.
      Sit in (or have someone do this for you that will provide true facts) on Planning discussions, Project
      meetings, IT meetings (Change, Incident, Problem, etc) and find out how the areas truly operate as
      opposed to the status that is reported to you.
