Current Employee - Geospatial Engineer in Fort Lewis, WA (US)

I have been working at US Army full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Military life brings training, skills and experience, from simple mechanical to specific technical, including logistics, management, health and fitness, first aid, computers, vehicles and weapons. The Army also teaches time management, discipline and both teamwork and self-reliance

    Cons

The hours can be challenging, the work is often taxing, both physically and mentally, and there are as many bad people as there are good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Adherence to standards goes unrewarded, while violation of standards/rules seems to go unpunished. And why does even the slightest bit of rank protect one from most negative action?

Former Employee - Flight Operations Specialist  in  Lincoln, NE (US)
Former Employee - Flight Operations Specialist in Lincoln, NE (US)

I worked at US Army part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Travel the world. Meet interesting people. Kill them. But really, if you join young, you will see more of the world than any of your peers. Pay is not bad when you factor in zero cost of living.

    Cons

Hope you're not married or expecting your girlfriend to wait for you to get back from war. Infidelity is higher in the military than probably any other profession [citation needed].

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to the Army core values and don't play favorites. I've had some of my best bosses and worst bosses in the Army. Takes all kinds, I guess.
