Pros

Prof Growth Opps
Generally Hire very good "line-level" associates
Benefits and work environment are very good
Safety is highest priority, even in the office environment

Cons

In a cyclical industry, so layoffs are not uncommon
Not always looking for long term value in software development
Don't really understand how software development needs to work, still treat it like building they are building a widget.

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser

    Pros

In the past there have been a lot of opportunities for new and different challenges. The real forest land assets owned by the company gives me hope for the future as the building market increases.
More opportunities will be there for those that survive the tough economic times.

    Cons

Severe reductions in the work force in the supporting organizations has created a very negative working environment. The cuts have come wave after wave leaving those that survive a feeling of continued uncertainty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If cuts need to be made, learn how to make the decision quickly, take the action needed swiftly too.
Your employees have been told they are a great asset, start treating them as such

I have been working at Weyerhaeuser

    Pros

Company has a rich history and a great culture. Company is very ethical and employee safety is placed above everything, including profit. Company has a culture that most people will enjoy and produces something of value to society by engaging in sustainable foresty and taking care of the environment.

    Cons

Limited opportunity in the present environment given the economy, significant losses and job reductions. Not sure if senior management is really focused on employee satisfaction. Seems employees are a liability rather than an asset like they were viewed prior to the current CEO. Also not sure what the long-term strategy is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the employees like most employees would argue has occurred historically. Also, have a long-term strategy. Five years ago bigger was better and the company was acquriing several companies then 2-3 years later it was lean and focused. Today, it's unclear what the long-term strategy is other the company will own trees.
