I have been working at Zurich North America full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Corp. balance sheet. Able to u/w international to large contractors. Company is filled with vast industry experts who have been u/w surety for 30 to 40 years. Decentralized corporate structure with high local underwriting authority to make deals happen quickly and get new business.

Cons

Internal IT systems/ infrastructure far behind industry standards and competitor. Limited upper mobility for yournger workers. Overly aggressive growth targets.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes no growth is the best risk mitigator.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time

    Pros

    Mostly friendly and helpful staff
    Benefits
    Good work-life balance
    Organisation is financially secure
Management trusting of staff to get on with job
All new/replacement roles advertised internally (big plus!)
Improving mgmt to staff communication on company news
Low volume of time-wasting meetings - only organised when required

    Cons

Below average salaries, mgmt pride themselves in awarding low pay
    Current round of cost-cutting
Zero off-site training for most staff (only in-house/online courses available)
    Very limited promotional prospects
Most managers leave staff too much to their own devices unless they shout loud for help
Project progress in general is very slow as not prioritised with allocation of proper people/time resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take on new responsibilities where there is a good fit and gradually increase headcount;
    Be more honest with staff on their performance and prospects;
    Increase falling staff morale

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Stable company

    Cons

After two years you will still not understand the pay plan. Regional managers only micro manage and do ZERO to coach and develop front line field staff

Very long and exhausting interviewing and onboarding process

Held very highly accountable for exceeding goals without getting the necessary resourses to accomplish these goals

Growth goals are set each year and can be unrealistic

    Job security

No loyalty from management and Regional Managers will use front line field staff as the fall guy for their own personal failures and lack of production

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tried before I left, and got no response so it is unlikely they will care any more by seeing it here.

    Doesn't Recommend
