Former Employee - Operations Manager in San Francisco, CA (US)
Former Employee - Operations Manager in San Francisco, CA (US)

I worked at Zynga full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

"Perks" like free food, gym, massages
Lots of smart, interesting, motivated ground-level staff

Cons

Ambiguous expectations for many positions, especially less common ones
Work-life balance awful if you have outside commitments
Inexperienced management
Politics, politics, politics... it's a game company, so prepare to play lots of games w/your job

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking that "treating employees well" means throwing perks & dubious stock/bonus promises at them. Instead, staff your Operations and Partner teams properly and pay them with the same respect you give engineers. Be transparent with expectations, provide feedback, and for crying out loud so something about the drinking and sexual behavior at work.

Current Employee - Senior Game Designer in San Francisco, CA (US)

I have been working at Zynga full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The free food is nice. The people I worked with were genuinely friendly, very talented, and most are highly motivated.

    Cons

Web development culture has little understanding of game development. The company lacks agility and relies too much on the same formulas again and again. Little forward thought or drive to innovate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove Product Managers from the game design process. They should exist in an supervisory capacity, ensuring that profitability is addressed, but should not be making design decisions.

I have been working at Zynga full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

For career advancements, furtherance of trade and development of occupational skills in relation to job compatibility to fit all necessary employment requirements

    Cons

This creates for the applicant a geographical displacement relative to his present place of origin, and more competition among job seekers due to online job availability resulting in higher skill requirement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To offer reasonable compensations for those who would be opting to risk leaving their present jobs in pursuit for a greener pasture..and provide easier job placements for qualified and skilled applicants
