I have been working at FAA full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, keeping up with technology. Opportunities to shine.

    Cons

Too many laggards with personal fiefdoms, no one wants to be held accountable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove obstacles out of the way and let us finish projects on time and under budget. PMO, business office and engineering departments need to be shaken up to bring in more customers. Hold folks accountable for wasting tax dollars on unprofitable projects.

    Pros

The hours, people you work with and pay are all great pros of working for the FAA. The FAA does a great job of screening people and having the best people with great personalities for every job. The consistent pay is also great as it provides support and a stable income to provide for my family.

    Cons

Some cons working as a controller are the swing shifts. its tough to plan around and can sometimes interfere with your family but its a great career nevertheless.

Former Employee - Consultant in Washington, DC (US)

I worked at FAA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Performed as a contract and full time support consultant covering a twenty one year span. Translation, a job that provided longevity and security. Served as a asset manager and documentation manager for aeronautical products.

    Cons

I received in-house training on automated inventory systems to manage IT assets located throughout the US. Too widely dispersed, accountability in some cases were very challenging

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Federal Government no recommendations.

    Pros

Working environment, work schedule, and job security.

    Cons

Difficult to move up the career ladder due to the "get in line and wait for your turn" mind set. Lack of training. Federal government does not have a mandatory retirement age, if you are young be prepare to carry more "weight".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold employees accountable to the job they sign up for. Management needs to recognize hard working people
