Pros – The pay and benefits are great. The people are fun. Very easy to advance if you have the drive and motivation. Does a pretty good job with work/life balance.
Cons – A lot of miscommunication from corporate on different things. Hours are getting cut more and more, yet sales are increasing. Management changes often to where its hard to get to know them.

Pros – Fred Meyer has a great corporate structure, with good people in place from top to bottom. They treat their employee's well, offer good incentives, have tons of resources and invest money back into their stores with regular remodels, product upgrades and innovative ways to make the customer experience better.
Cons – While Fred Meyer has many good programs in place, Kroger (who owns Fred Meyer) likes to screw with things a little bit. Often, they implement new programs or ways of doing things that just don't fit wor work well in Fred Meyer. Fred Meyer also provides slightly below average pay and does not have good work/home balance support.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop treating associates like children; store huddles, public praise and all the "feel good" things that have been put in place are over-utilized. Stop caring so much about making the customer happy and instead focus on running a successful business. Focus instead on lowering prices or, increasing associate wages and the happy customer will follow.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time for less than a year
Pros – This is a fun store to work at, it has everything! It's like shopping and working at the same time. I worked in the home and housewares department. It was nice to not have to go to the back to get stock, you only downstock from the top shelf so you can take care of your customers and be out on the floor the whole time. If I could I would have stayed there to work! I loved Fred Meyer!
Cons – I didn't like that they switch your schedule every week and you don't know when you would be working until the week before. Wished I could have stayed and not gotten laid off because Christmas was over. I was a temporary seasonal employee. They just didn't have a position for me at that time and I would have had to wait till spring to get hired back.
Advice to Senior Management – A more steady schedule for everyone.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Consistent stable company
vacation time, sick pay, pension for vested union members, 401k for all employees, employee stock purchase plan, stock options to salaried employees, annual performance evaluations, bonuses in some management positions. Major medical, dental, and vision. Life Insurance for salaried employees.
regional favorite retailer with great stores and products
modernized logistics and systems with continuous improvement
private label brands in general merchandise and food keep business price competitive
Company motto and goals are clear and achievable
Stated goal is to make it a fun creative place to work and efforts are made in most business units to create that environment.
Cons – Work Life balance as a stated value. If you're management, you are expected to breath Fred Meyer. Some years there are no seasonal hires - get it done with the same staff and twice the volume of merchandise and customers in the store. Urban store conditions are a constant battle -- Customers abuse merchandise, restrooms, restaurant area, throw stuff on the floor, etc.
Upper Management values cookie cutter approach to operations, personality of neighborhood or creativity in merchandising or product assortment is not highly valued.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep striving to make it a pleasant place to spend your day. Honor the floor people by keeping them in the loop when changes affect them. ESPECIALLY scheduling issues-- I see this one fumbled frequently. Initially, I thought it was due to new scheduling software but It must just be a communication issue.

I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time for less than a year
Pros – Excellent coworkers, great teamwork & general work ethic among peers. Management and HR are very interested in employee feedback and offer growth within the company. Pay is good, and company offers excellent raises after a number of hours worked. I look forward to going to work everyday! Benefits are great as well.
Cons – Work can be hard at times, but the results are also quite rewarding - happy customers, and consistent praise from department managers.
Advice to Senior Management – Management seems to be solid - I can't offer any advice at this point. Everyone, including store director are always available and approachable with questions from employees.

Pros – Good company, benefits after time, hard work can sometimes pay off.
