I have been working at Fred Meyer

    Pros

Very good and stable work environment.

    Cons

Low pay raises, best negotiation is your first. The work load will get heavier with each passing year until it is absolutely necessary to expand and hire out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a higher budget for expansion and raises.

I love this company and fast paced atmosphere, a tad too much possibly.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

The discounts are incredible. %10-20% off EVERYTHING in the store. Add that with a coupon, sale and bonus coupon & you've just saved a hundred bill. It's life consuming because they always make you want to come back. The only thing I don't buy at Fred's are the clothes, ironic that I work in the clothing department.

    Cons

The life to work ratio in my life is sad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management can be pretty cruel at times, but if you work hard and rock a smile you'll do just fine.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

My position is luckily the only store level Monday-friday position, with the ability to tweak your hours.

You get compensated for the mileage.

It's a fun job, very creative.

The in-store discounts are really good.

    Cons

Corporate level employees like buyers don't wish to speak to you directly, even though it is often said that employees can contact them directly.

Health insurance takes six months to receive and it takes two years to get your family covered.

Employees don't get a choice of what stores they are sent to.

No real mobility within the position.

Coworkers often get competitive over displays, however big or small.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is good and they hire from within. They provide adequate training and reward employees for hard work.

    Cons

The management doesn't listen to employees and picks favorites. Also, you HAVE to be part of the union, which is additional money out of your paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees. While working at Fred Meyer, I was able to be promoted within a year of employment. When new management came in, my hours were cut to the minimum and I was ignored until I had to leave because I couldn't pay bills. When I ran into the guy who was responsible for my cut hours a couple of months later, I was asked to come back because my former department was no longer passing inspections. I just told him that he should have listened to me.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

Most employees working for Fred Meyer are nice people, but when it comes to management, it's a whole different game.

    Cons

Beginning with supervisors and any position above them is extremely demanding, it's like they're forced to run the sweatshop like in China or India. I feel sorry for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are people and they have families too.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

Great people to work with, management was really awesome and helpful. The store was a mess, but everyone did what they could to help

    Cons

Nothing was really done for the hardest workers. People often were trained in multiple areas, but weren't given incentives because "it wasn't part of their pay grade".

  10.

I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with were generally pretty cool. The pay seemed to be well above the average grocery stores in the area. Health benefits were decent. Good employee discount for non-food items.

    Cons

Employee discount not very good on food. Corporate culture is a little redundant. Whenever corporate is in town everybody stops normal operations to get ready for the "visit". Union protected horrible workers at the expense of hard workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate needs to understand that stuff happens and not everything will be perfect all the time. Performance based pay would do a lot for the morale of good employees.
