Former Employee – worked at Fry full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Relaxed environment that is getting lot's of new business. Omni-Channel integrations and solutions are taking off and a big hit in the market.
It is funny but I have never seen so many ex employees that appear to be unable to move on. Change isn't for everyone. Omni channel suite of products has opened new doors and opportunities that wouldn't have been there had it remained Fry. Fry could not compete stand alone. There is a new energy in the AA office and it is really on the comeback trail. I am glad I didn't listen to the negative comments when I joined. Unfortunately I had to leave due to family reason. I will look to come back in the near future I hope.
Cons – Not adding new employees fast enough

Current Employee – been working at Fry full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Micros-Retail (formerly Fry) has the only true omni-channel solution for retailers and is delivering it for medium-to-large clients. Ex-Fry folks were turned off by being part of a larger company, but it was being a puzzle piece in a larger solution. Those who stayed and understood that see what a career boost this is--being in a broader context including hospitality, restaurant, etc. MICROS is a giant in the industry with huge resources, and they reward people who have good ideas and work hard to realize them.
By the way, John Gularson is not the CEO and never was.
Cons – Offices are a bit quiet and drab, but the people are great. Some policies, such as lack of transparency on expenses, are annoying, but that's what you get when you work for a public company. You do run into a bean-counter mentality once in a while.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep opening the doors to innovation. Fix the stuff that's cheap and easy to fix--that's often what employees are grumbling about the most. Hire more resources so we have some bench and agility.

Current Employee – been working at Fry full-time for more than a year
Pros – Some bright people in offices outside of Ann Arbor.
Cons – Platform is very outdated. Losing major clients and employees. Turnover is very high.Employees have no confidence in product or leadership. Leadership does not recongnize that employees have lives outside of work. Overtime for engineers is the standard here, expect to do 70 hours weekly.
Pay is near the bottom of the industry. Middle management personnel are in positions they don't deserve to be in and the worst thing about Fry is that no one will just do the work. It has to be complained about first by nearly everybody.
The outlook for this company as a whole is bleak. The outlook for the AA office is even bleaker. I give it about a year.
Advice to Senior Management – Too many problems to fix in AA. All the work is being done at other locations anyways.Shut down the AA office and focus on re-branding your other locations in NY and Chicago.

Former Employee – worked at Fry full-time for more than a year
Pros – Relaxed work environment, interesting work, great people, and great work/life balance. Being a consultant can be tough, but the work is rewarding.
Cons – Pay is not as competitive as working in downtown Chicago, but living and working in the suburbs worked for me. The company is not as bad as previous reviews with Micros taking over. It's a job and people that don't like change simply move on (and complain).
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on employee growth and team building.

Former Employee – worked at Fry full-time for more than a year
Pros – Relaxed work environment, long time employees were very technically competent. Significant account of freedom when implementing technical solutions. Company prefers open source technologies.
Cons – Upper management destroyed to culture of a really successful smaller company when Fry was purchased by Micros. Communication became very limited and one way. Yearly review process lacked input from multiple sources leading to one source dominating review. Some project managers who did not have any formal computer science training tried to dominate technology solutions at times.
Advice to Senior Management – Bringing back the small company culture that values individual employees would attract and keep the best talent, although it may be too late. Allow technologists to exercise their expertise and let project management do what they do best, make sure the project gets delivered.

Former Employee – worked at Fry full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Employees are nice , product not to bad but needs improvement and integration.
Cons – Was a great place to work when original Fry executives had involvement , they actually made a profit which is something that the current leadership is having a hard time accomplishing. Once Micros took over it went downhill. Employees are treated and spoken to like children and due to this many talented people with years in at the company have left. Pay is not competitive and existing senior management seem to be in over thier head with no real exit plan.

Pros – Impressive ecommerce platform. Excellent place for developers to work. Work with very prestigious clients and brands.
Cons – Micros took over and so the original Fry culture gone. Huge eccomerce brain drain has occurred. Long term viability is questionable.
Advice to Senior Management – Integrate the multichannel product suite and become more competitive in the marketplace.

Former Employee – worked at Fry full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great people. Interesting and fairly diverse clients. Plenty of work that tends not to be monotonous. A history of e-commerce leadership.
Cons – High attrition due to a change in culture. Parent company, Micros-Retail is imposing old-style corporate-think that expects equipment to be more valuable and irreplaceable than talented employees.
Advice to Senior Management – People need to be invested in. If you wish to have any standing in e-commerce you need to be able to capitalize on new technology and rapid projects. Invest in product development processes and try to keep up with industry-standard software and tools.
