Current Employee – been working at GenCorp
Pros – Exciting work with NASA space and defense missile development. It's a technology rich environment with heritage and a future. There are few other mid sized companies where your work is part of protecting and defending our country and your products have and will visit every planet in the solar system. Aerojet (one of Gencorps two primary businesses) has a key role in developing many of the rocket engines used for NASA's Ares and Orion programs which will provide manned launch capability for the U.S. after the Space Shuttle is retired.
Cons – There is an unnecessarily complex management structure that results from the acquisition of two rocket companies to Aerojet in 2002. Restructuring and combining the three remains incomplete and hinders competitiveness in 2008. Three sub cultures remain.
Advice to Senior Management – Invest more in training, both program management and technical disciplines. Spend money on a modern, unified finance system. Also get modern with document storage and retrieval.
